What's a Dynamic Element?
When you're editing a template, you can add dynamic elements. A dynamic element means that the guest will be asked to provide some information, which will be used to create the image from the template.
For example, when making a Trading Card template, you might add a dynamic element that capture's the guest's name, and have it show on the card.
You need the Pro or Pro+ plan to create dynamic elements.
We recommend first creating your AI Prompts, then creating your template, then creating your survey, in that order. That makes it possible to re-use elements so your guests are only asked once for each piece of information.
Adding Dynamic Elements to your Template
When you're editing the template, hit the "Dynamic element" add button here:
You'll be asked what kind of element you want to add:
Here are the different kinds:
Single line text: your guest will be asked to enter a simple single line of text
Text multi-select: allows guest to choose an option - each option is text
Image multi-select: allows guest to choose an option - each option is an image and text
For example we'll add pick "Single line text" to ask for the guest's name. After choosing it you are prompted to add the "guest label" and "data label" and "preview":
Guest label: what will show to guests in the app. We'll use "What is your name?"
Data label: what will show in the CSV that you download after the event - the column name. We'll use "name".
Preview: what the template editor will show for this field, and also the app's preview of the template before the guest enters any information. You need to type something here: we put "Name".
Here's the updated template editor view with this name field added:
To change the default font and other metadata, change these values in the right panel ("Configuration").
Next let's add an image multi-select - we'll let the guest choose which team they're on. For each item upload the image you want and type the name in. Here's what it looks like with our 4 teams added:
Let's move the template layers around by clicking and dragging them (you can make fine adjustments with the up/down/left/right arrows too), and we'll set the alignment of the name field we made to be 'center':
Next we should check to see how this template will look when the guest chooses a different option for the image multi-select - see how the first option is the default one? To change the preview to see what other selections look like, click the layer, then click the dropdown:
Here I have picked "Strike Club" and the template preview has updated to show what it'll look like. This setting is also the default value for your guests.
We recommend that all the images you use for a single image multi-select field have the same aspect ratio. This is because the first (default) option is what sets the bounding box for the layer, and the other options are rendered into that same bounding box with aspect-fit.
Adding Survey elements that are also used by your Template
After creating an event and assigning this template to it, you'll see that the elements we added show up in the Survey area of the event:
There's a good reason for this! To illustrate, let's add a survey that captures the consent of the guest. Hit "Edit" in the Survey area, toggle on Pre-session, and hit the "Add" button:
See how the 2 dynamic elements we already added to the template appear as options we can add to the Survey? That's what "links" them together.
Let's add the name and consent fields to the survey:
Don't forget to hit the "Save" button.
Back on the Event page, I can see that the name value is being used for both the Template that I called "Dynamic Elements", and also the Pre-session survey:
App Experience - What Guests See on the iPad
When your guests use the app, here's what they see when they select a capture type with this template.
I've set this event to only have the Photos capture type enabled, and there's only 1 template assigned to the event, so on the very first screen of the event I can already see our template preview with "Name" showing:
Pro+ members can also customize the capture type buttons, ie. the Start button shown here
When I tap the Start button, I see this:
Pro+ users can also change the backgrounds in the app, including this one
After the user fills in their name, checks the box, and hits the arrow to continue, they see this:
The preview showing the photo in this screenshot is actually a live video feed from the camera.
You can see that the name field is pre-filled, because I already filled it in the pre-session survey. I can change it here too in case I don't want my full name being used on the template.
After the guest makes their choices and hits "Save", they're ready to take their photo:
The rest of the flow is the same as the other capture types.
