Troubleshooting: Print Events

If your iPad can't find the Print.Events application and you are connected via a router (includes wifi or ethernet), make sure your router is not blocking SSDP (also known as UPNP), which is what the iPad uses to discover the Windows PC application.

When using ethernet without a router

If you are connecting an ethernet cord directly from the iPad USB hub to the Windows PC without a router, then make sure you assign IP addresses to both sides:

On the iPad side, go to Settings App, ethernet adapter, change IP from automatic to manual, and use these settings:

    • IP: 192.168.6.6
    • netmask: 255.255.255.0
    • router: leave it blank

If you are not familiar with how to set ethernet settings, please check out this video where I show you how to open the Settings App and change the ethernet settings:

On the Windows PC side, open the properties for your ethernet adapter by searching "Ethernet" in the window search bar and selecting "Network & Internet: Ethernet" as shown below, and change the IP address settings from automatic to manual and use these settings:

    • IP address: 192.168.6.5
    • netmask: 255.255.255.0
    • router/gateway: leave it blank

Connecting manually when auto-detection doesn't work

You can also manually connect by IP address (requires iOS app version 1.43.1 or newer). You'll see a button to enter the IP address on the screen after you choose "Print.Events" and the scan finishes.

To find the IP address of the Print.Events app, look at the top-left of the window:

Print.Events has an IP address of 192.168.6.111:10000

When entering the IP address on the iPad, enter it with the port as well so the format is: 192.168.6.111:10000

If you have more than one IP address on the Windows PC then you will see multiple IP addresses listed at the top of the window. To choose the right one to enter on the iPad, look at the IP address of your iPad (Settings App -> wifi/ethernet -> 'i' icon) and choose the Print.Events IP address that looks the most similar to your iPad IP address.

The app will remember the IP it connected to last time, and automatically attempt to reconnect to the same address.
