Wondering how many iPads or iPhones you can use with your plan? Here's how licensing works across Free, Basic, Pro, and Pro+ subscriptions.
Device Limits by Plan
Plan | iPhones | iPads |
Basic | 1 (either iPhone or iPad) | 1 total device |
Pro (Includes free trial) | Unlimited | 1 |
Pro+ | Unlimited | 4 (included) – Add more iPads at extra cost |
💡 Event credits are counted at the Pro level, so even Free users get access to those features.
What Counts as a Licensed Device?
Licensing is based on the number of devices in use at the same time.
If you own multiple iPads but only ever use one at a time (e.g., for testing or backup), you only need one iPad license.
What Happens If a Device Isn’t Licensed?
Devices without a license can’t launch events or upload content.
When you open the app on an unlicensed device, it will:
Try to assign itself a free license
If none are available, it will prompt you to “Activate This Device”, which:
Unlicenses all other devices in order to continue
No data is lost when a device is unlicensed: it just can’t capture or upload until it’s re-licensed.
Manage Your Device Licenses
Go to the Devices page.
See which devices are licensed.
Remove any devices to free up licenses for new ones.
To prevent abuse, we may limit how frequently a device can be removed from the license list.
What About Share Station?
Good news - with Booth.events you can use a device license in three ways:
1. As a capture and share device
2. As a capture device
3. As a share station,
If you are looking to use an iPad as a capture station with a separate iPad or Mac as a share station you need Pro+
How to Add More iPads or Upgrade Your Plan
Need more than 1 iPad? Upgrade to Pro+ on the Billing page.
Need more than 4 iPads? You can add more devices to your Pro+ account in your billing area.
You can add or remove devices per billing cycle. If you are adding a device part way through a billing cycle you only pay the prorated cost that is remaining.
We also offer Enterprise plans for teams with large-scale or unique business models.
Common questions about licences
Do iPhones use a licence?
No. iPhones never use a licence. Any iPad or Mac running the app uses a licence.
Does a share station need its own licence?
Yes, if it runs at the same time as your capture devices. Every iPad or Mac in use at the same time needs a licence. For example, 4 capture iPads plus 1 share station iPad running together need 5 licences.
Can I use an event credit to license another iPad?
No. Event credits are used when you create an event and cannot be used for licences. To add licences you need Pro+.
How do I add or remove licences on Pro+?
Go to the Billing page and use add/remove licenses.
I added a licence on an annual plan. How long does it last?
Licences are added for the rest of your current billing cycle. If you reduce your licences, the change takes effect when your subscription renews (so on an annual plan, at the end of the year). The unused amount is added to your account as credit, which is used towards your renewal or future licences.
Why were all my devices suddenly unlicensed?
This can happen if you try to license a device when no licences are free, or if you reduced your number of licences without first removing a device on the Devices page. When the plan renews with more devices than licences, the system cannot tell which device to remove, so it unlicenses them. Before you lower your licence count, remove the extra devices yourself. An unlicensed device grabs a free licence automatically when it is back online or launches an event.
Will photos on an unlicensed device be lost?
No. Photos that have not uploaded yet will upload the next time the device is licensed.
How do I tell my iPads apart on the Devices page?
Give each iPad its own name in the iPad's Settings app, under General.
