Attract screens (also called the welcome or "touch to start" screen) show on the iPad while the booth is idle. You build them in the same online editor as templates (see How to: Template & Attract Screen Editor).
How to create an attract screen
In your web dashboard, go to Attract screens. You can do this on a computer, or in Safari on your iPad. It cannot be done inside the Booth.Events app.
Create a new attract screen. You will be asked which device you are using and the orientation (portrait or landscape). The editor then shows the exact pixel size for that screen.
Design your images or video at exactly that pixel size.
To add a video, click Background on the top bar and add your video at the bottom. This is also where you turn live view on or off.
To add images (JPG or PNG) or text, use the Layers toggle.
Wait until the editor shows that all changes are saved.
How to use the attract screen at your event
Open the Booth.Events app and tap your event.
On the first pane (Start settings), choose your attract screen. This is also where you set the delay before it appears.
Launch the event and let the iPad sit idle to check it.
You can also use an attract screen as the background of the capture screen. See How to: Brand Your App & Gallery.
Troubleshooting
The app says the attract screen isn't made for the screen size of this iPad
The attract screen was made for a different device or orientation (for example a 12.9" layout on a 13" iPad, or portrait instead of landscape). Create it again choosing your exact iPad model and orientation, and make sure your imported image or video matches the pixel size shown.
My attract screen doesn't show when I start the event
Check that the right attract screen is assigned in your event's Start settings. The iPad may also be detecting your face and closing the attract screen straight away, so step out of view of the camera and wait for the delay to pass.
My video is hidden or I only see the live view
Live view is always the bottom layer. If you don't want the camera feed showing, turn off the live view toggle under Background.
The screen goes black
Black is the default background colour. If you have turned live view off, turn it back on, or check that your image or video has uploaded and is the right size.
The dashboard shows a blank or still image instead of my video
That is normal. The attract screen page on the dashboard shows a still from the video instead of a live preview. The video will play on the iPad.
I set the attract screen to "None" but still see one
You are probably seeing the capture screen background. Edit the event on the web dashboard, open the iPad tab, scroll to Capture screen: use an attract screen as background, click Choose and remove it.
Common questions
How do I keep the attract screen showing all the time?
In the same Start settings, turn the delay down to 0.
Can I add a gallery button to the attract screen?
Yes. Tap your event in the app, and on the Start tab scroll down a little to find the option to add the gallery button.
What shows if I don't use a custom attract screen?
The default Booth.Events attract screen ("Lit Party, come closer" with flames).
Can I change the "Ready? Touch to start" text?
Yes, in the language settings of the iOS app. See How To: Customize Language Used in Booth.Events.
