Manually Opening and Closing the Booth
You can open or close your booth instantly from anywhere using the web dashboard.
Log in to your Booth.Events web dashboard.
Go to the Devices page.
Find the iPad you want to edit
Click Close.
β
Once closed, the iPad will immediately display the Closed screen. To reopen it, Click Open. The iPad will return to the capture screen right away.
Changes sync instantly, so you don't need to touch the iPad.
You can also open or close your booth within the app via the in-event menu:
Note: If you want to close the booth while a schedule is active, you will first need to toggle the event schedule to off for that device (see below).
Scheduling Your Booth to Open and Close Automatically
If you want the booth to turn on and off at specific times, you can set up a schedule. This is especially helpful for drop-off rentals or making sure you stick to contracted hours. This feature is only available on Pro+.
On the Devices page, Locate the device you're configuring. It will display the unique name of each device (you can edit the names in the general settings of your iPad/iOS device)
Tap or click on Schedule section
Enable device Schedule (if not enabled) and select your event
Set specific Device settings for the event including Station Type, Start and End time
Save and close
Toggle the event schedule OFF from the dashboard to temporarily unlock your device. This gives you full access to test, troubleshoot, or make changes. Toggle it back ON when you're ready and your scheduled events will resume automatically.
Here's what happens:
Before the start time: The iPad shows the Countdown screen, letting guests know when the booth will open.
During the event: The booth works normally.
After the end time: The iPad automatically switches to the Closed screen and stops taking photos.
Testing Your Setup Before a Scheduled Event
Scheduled events lock Booth.Events immediately for security, but you'll likely want to test everything before your guests arrive. To do this, navigate to devices on your web dashboard and toggle the schedule switch OFF - this temporarily "opens the booth" for testing. Run through your complete guest experience: check your camera angles, test your lighting, verify captures are working, and walk through your entire flow. Once you've confirmed everything is perfect, return to your devices on the web dashboard and toggle the schedule back ON to "close the booth." Your device will stay locked to the event and ready until your event's start time.
Customizing the Closed and Countdown Screens
By default, the Closed and Countdown screens are plain. Most operators customize them with branded graphics or helpful messages.
Go to the Devices page on your web dashboard.
Select Countdown screen or closed screen.
For the Closed screen:
Click Upload Image to add a background image (for example, "Thanks for coming!" or "Paused for dinner").
Edit the Text Field to display a custom message.
For the Countdown screen:
Upload an image like "Get Ready!" or "Starting Soon".
The system will automatically overlay a countdown timer on your image.
Save your changes. If the iPad is online, it will update immediately.
β
A note about image sizing: Your uploaded image will not be cropped or edited to fit. It will only be centered on the screen. If you're concerned about cropping or want details in exact places, create your image at the same resolution as the iPad or display you plan on using.
