Use this guide when your connected USB camera is connected but the live view is missing, black, sideways, cropped or mirrored the wrong way, or when camera settings reset after reconnecting.
No Live View From the Camera
Check that live view is turned on in your event's Capture Settings (see How to: Event Capture Settings).
Open Camera Settings from the app's home screen and check whether you see live view there. The top-right corner shows whether the camera is connected or shows an error.
Restart both the camera and the iPad, then reconnect the USB cable.
Try a different cable, and connect the camera directly to the iPad (without a dock or hub).
Live view connected but very dark when using flash? See Troubleshooting: Dark Liveview (Canon).
Live View or Photos Are Sideways (Portrait Setups)
The live view normally rotates automatically when you turn the camera. If it doesn't look right:
Check whether your camera has its own screen rotation setting (for example the Canon R100), and use it to lock the orientation.
If your camera doesn't have that setting, you can force the USB live view to rotate in your event's Capture Settings. You can also try turning on Ignore USB liveview orientation.
If the live view is cropped or doesn't fill the photo area the way you want, go to Advanced Capture Settings on the Capture tab and turn Liveview aspect fit on (or off if it is already on).
Force quit and reopen the app after changing these live view settings.
Want the screen to act like a mirror but keep your template text readable? In Camera Settings, tap Live view and choose Mirror feed + template preview. This mirrors the live feed only; the resulting photo is not mirrored.
Camera Settings Reset After Reconnecting
Your camera settings should be kept when you unplug the camera and plug it back in. If they go back to defaults:
Update the Booth.Events app to the latest version from the App Store.
Restart both the iPad and the camera.
Try a different USB cable, and connect the camera directly to the iPad without the dock to rule it out.
If it still happens, turn on logging so our team can investigate: go to the Devices page of your web dashboard (dashboard.booth.events/devices), click the arrow next to the iPad you are using, and turn on the logging option at the bottom of the panel. Then make the problem happen again and tell us in chat.
