Print.Events, our Windows print server application

The Print.Events Windows app is for when you want to have your printer connected to a Windows PC (such as a Microsoft Surface tablet), and print to there from the iOS Booth.Events app.

The Print.Events app facilitates sharing the printer from your Windows PC to your iPad or iPhone or Mac.

The Booth.Events Terms and Conditons apply: we assume no liability for any issues caused by this software. By downloading or using this software, you agree to the Terms and Conditions.

Installation Instructions

On a Windows PC, double-click the downloaded file to start the install process.

The application will open after installation, and will also open each time the PC is rebooted.

Upgrade Instructions

If you already have an older version installed, you must uninstall the existing version first, before installing the new version.

Uninstall Instructions

To uninstall the app, use the standard Windows program removal method. If you're not familiar, here's how: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uninstall-or-remove-apps-and-programs-in-windows-4b55f974-2cc6-2d2b-d092-5905080eaf98#id0ebd=windows_11

Connecting the iOS App

Make sure your iPad and Windows PC are on the same network. You can connect to the same wifi or use ethernet (wired). If you're using ethernet without a router, there's some setup required - see the Troubleshooting section below.

When you add a printer, you'll see a pop-up allowing you to choose the Print.Events printer type, as pictured below.

The first time you do this, you'll probably get a popup from iOS asking for Local Network Access. You must hit Allow, close the popup and try again.

After selecting Print.Events, the app will attempt to find the Print.Events application and if successful will show a list of printers shared:

After selecting a printer, configure it the same way as you configure all printers in the app: https://help.booth.events/article/100-printer-settings

When you tap the printer row after you added it and open printer settings, you'll notice that Print.Events printers have one extra setting called Overscan.

This setting controls the "zoom" of the image as it is printed. So if you are seeing white lines around the sides of your print, try increasing overscan. If you are finding the sides of the print are cut off, try reducing overscan.

Troubleshooting

If your iPad can't find the Print.Events application and you are connected via a router (includes wifi or ethernet), make sure your router is not blocking SSDP (also known as UPNP), which is what the iPad uses to discover the Windows PC application.

When using ethernet without a router

If you are connecting an ethernet cord directly from the iPad USB hub to the Windows PC without a router, then make sure you assign IP addresses to both sides:

On the iPad side, go to Settings App, ethernet adapter, change IP from automatic to manual, and use these settings:

    • IP: 192.168.6.6
    • netmask: 255.255.255.0
    • router: leave it blank

If you are not familiar with how to set ethernet settings, please check out this video where I show you how to open the Settings App and change the ethernet settings:

On the Windows PC side, open the properties for your ethernet adapter by searching "Ethernet" in the window search bar and selecting "Network & Internet: Ethernet" as shown below, and change the IP address settings from automatic to manual and use these settings:

    • IP address: 192.168.6.5
    • netmask: 255.255.255.0
    • router/gateway: leave it blank

Connecting manually when auto-detection doesn't work

You can also manually connect by IP address (requires iOS app version 1.43.1 or newer). You'll see a button to enter the IP address on the screen after you choose "Print.Events" and the scan finishes.

To find the IP address of the Print.Events app, look at the top-left of the window:

Print.Events has an IP address of 192.168.6.111:10000

When entering the IP address on the iPad, enter it with the port as well so the format is: 192.168.6.111:10000

If you have more than one IP address on the Windows PC then you will see multiple IP addresses listed at the top of the window. To choose the right one to enter on the iPad, look at the IP address of your iPad (Settings App -> wifi/ethernet -> 'i' icon) and choose the Print.Events IP address that looks the most similar to your iPad IP address.

The app will remember the IP it connected to last time, and automatically attempt to reconnect to the same address.

How to print 2x2x6 (cuts) at the same time as 4x6 (not cut) with Print.Events

Because the DNP "2-inch cut" option is unfortunately a global option that affects the entire printer and all of its paper sizes, by default you cannot print to both 2x2x6 (cut) and 4x6 (not cut) at the same time.

However, there is a workaround: you can duplicate the printer in Windows so that you have one with the 2-inch cut option enabled, and the other with it disabled.

Duplicating the printer is not simple. Luckily a community member Tomas has made a video showing you how to do this:
